| INTERNATIONAL REGENT SPEAKS ON 37TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROE VS WADE |
INTERNATIONAL REGENT SPEAKS ON 37H ANNIVERESARY OF ROE VS WADE
My dear Sisters:
At 7 p.m. on January 21, the eve of the 37th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme court decision legalizing abortion, thousands of Catholics will gather in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to pray for an end to abortion at the National Prayer Vigil for Life Opening Mass. The following day, tens of thousands more will participate in the National March for Life, including many of our young college circle members who will join together as Daughters of Isabella supporting life!
I call on each member of the Daughters of Isabella to continue to take the stand to uphold the dignity of all human life. We should recommit ourselves to building a culture in which every human life is valued, no matter how poor or sick, how old or microscopic, that life may be. Let us unite our hearts and minds through prayer and good works with others throughout the country on this day, in promoting the inherent dignity of all human life from conception to natural death. As Catholics and Daughters of Isabella, we must heed the Lord’s call to life and be women "of life and for life" as our beloved Pope John Paul II called us to be.

| MONTREAL SITE OF STATE REGENTS MEETING |
State Regents and State Vice Regents from throughout the United States and Canada gathered with the International Board for their Biennial Meeting on July 24 and 25, 2009 at the Hilton Montréal Bonaventure in Montréal, Quebec. Also present at this gathering were Bishop Frank J. Dewane, the Episcopal Advisor, from Venice, Florida; Bishop André Vallée, Liaison Bishop, from Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade, QC; and Rev. Trevor Scarfone, President of the Chaplains Committee. Registration was held on Thursday evening and the meeting began on Friday morning, with Mass celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica Marie-Reine-du-Monde by Bishop Vallée. After a day of hard work, everyone enjoyed a special dinner and fun-filled “20’s” night at “Isabella’s Café” with many dressed in their colorful flapper attire. On Saturday evening, a special Mass was celebrated by Bishop Dewane after which the State Regents were free to explore Montreal. This was the first International meeting Bishop Dewane had attended since being appointed Episcopal Advisor last October.
During the two-day gathering, important information was presented by the International Regent, with translation done by International Vice-Regent Christiane Chagnon,. Topics discussed concerned State Regents responsibilities, the organization’s various programs and special reports from International Officers on Respect Life, Publicity, Youth and Membership.
As a preparation for a Membership Blitz to be held in April 2010, a very informative workshop on recruitment was presented by Co-Chairpersons Susanne Suchy, International Secretary/Treasurer and Diane Corriveau, International Director.
An exciting brain-storming session held on Saturday morning resulted in the selection of the theme for the 2010 International Convention to be held on August 1-4, 2010 at the same hotel in Montreal. Plans for the 2010 International Convention in Montreal, to include the various events and award programs, were also announced and discussed with the State Regents.
