The Daughters of Isabella held its 2016 International Biennial Convention at the Green Valley Ranch Hotel in Henderson, Nevada from August 7-10, 2016 . This year’s theme was “Love – Accept – Share”.
Opening Mass was held on Sunday, August 7.. In the absence of the Most Reverend Joseph A. Peppe, Bishop of Las Vegas, the Mass was celebrated by Father Trevor Scarfone, President of the Chaplain’s Committee and Trillium Ontario State Chaplain, concelebrated by our Episcopal Advisor, His Excellency Archbishop Luc Cyr, of Sherbrooke, Quebec and numerous State and Local Chaplains.
On Sunday evening, a special cocktail was served and appreciated by all.
On Monday morning, August 8th, members attended two workshops – The first presented was a Spirituality Workshop by Rev. Trevor Scarfone, State Chaplain of the Trillium-Ontario State Circle and His Excellency Archbishop Luc Cyr, our Episcopal Advisor. The second workshop was presented by International Vice Regent Susanne Suchy and International Past Regent Christiane Chagnon. At 2:00 pm, the business session began.
Approximately 350 Delegates, members and guests were registered for the Convention and in attendance at the Closing Banquet held on Wednesday evening, August 10th. Installation of Officers for the 2016-2018 term was held after the Closing Mass. Mrs. Aline Larabie, International Past Officer, presided at the Ceremony of Installation of Officers in the presence of our Episcopal Advisor His Excellency Archbishop Luc Cyr and numerous State and Local Chaplains.
The new International Officers elected are:
- International Regent: Diane Corriveau
- International Vice Regent: Susanne Suchy
- International Past Regent: Christiane Chagnon
- International Secretary/Treasurer: Judith Schisel
- International Directors for the US: Sharon Hengehold and Lucille Reif
- International Directors for Canada: Denise Viger
During the Mass, a special Memorial Service was held for deceased members of the Local, State and International Circles and Chaplains.
“A Mask Evening” was the theme for the banquet held on Wednesday evening followed by a fun evening of dancing.
The popular Walk-A-Thon to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness was held at 6:30 am on Tuesday, August 9th, with many, many members participating. Also, during the convention, a huge Respect Life Baby Shower was held, with hundreds of gifts donated by members of the United States and Canada circles.
During the business meeting, on Wednesday, August 10th, International Regent Diane Corriveau made a special announcement regarding the following charitable giving’s for the 2014-2016 period: Monetary Donations: $1,652,819.11 Volunteer Hours: 2 150 996 hours.
During the convention, awards were presented to the circles who were winners of the Cross and Crown Award and Isabella Award. Awards were also presented for membership and the circle with the most percentage of new members is: Lady of Grace Circle # 1414 of Tennessee with 35% of increase. Congratulations!
It was also announced that the next international Convention in 2018 will be held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
