May and June of 2016 were busy times for Joan of Arc Circle #1405 of Metairie, Louisiana. In May the circle, in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus Council #8546, held the 3rd Annual Car Show entitled “Cruising the Do Drive-In” which was named for an old neighborhood theater. 100 classic cars were displayed. Door prizes, raffles, a wide array of concessions and commemorative t-shirts help them raise a net profit of over $7,000. The proceeds were split between the two groups for the benefit of their annual scholarships that promote Catholic education.
In June Joan of Arc Circle #1405 and the KC Council #8546 sponsored ‘God’s Special Children’s Luau’ for the GSC group. The GSC organization consists of folks with special needs and their families. These families celebrate mass at St. Francis Xavier Church on the first Sunday of each month in an informal atmosphere where the ‘children’ fully participate in the mass via readings, responsorial psalm, homily and Prayers of the Faithful. These children present special challenges to their families and the mass allows the families to gain strength through the companionship of others. Our parties (two a year) allow everyone to celebrate summer and Christmas together. The Joan of Arc Circle truly lives our motto of Unity, Friendship and Charity through their good works for their community.
